Restore motion: Pt for a broken thumb will work to restore as much normal function as possible and to reduce as many complications as possible.

See below: After the fracture has been "set", either by a cast or with surgery, physical therapy is often necessary to deal with the stiffness and lost range of motion that can often occur. Once the range of motion has been restored, strengthening exercises can begin as well.
