Difficult: Certain finger and toe fractures can be treated with taping. The taping is usually done from one finger to the next. This cannot be done with the thumb as there is no finger next to it. Thumb fractures are best treated in the splint or cast.

Thumb: While i agree that many thumb fractures are best treated in a cast or splint, there are times when tape is used. After the initial healing has taken place , further protection is needed . The general pattern is a spica pattern, that is used t secure an appendage from a arger part such as a thumb from a hand without tapping it to another finger, the crossover pattern of a spica comes from the latin.
