Exam and US: Varicocele is a collection of varicose veins on the spermatic cords. Symptoms may be non existent, some men experience aching. Their relationship to infertility has been called into question. An exam by an experienced clinician and/or an ultrasound will confirm the diagnosis.

Feels, bag of worms: When scrotum is examined (palpated) with subject standing erect if varicocele is large, more prominent with valsalva. Symptoms few & far between, namely mild ache on affected side or feeling of heaviness. Scrotal ultrasound will demonstrate better as well as relative size of testes. Semenalysis can identify associated infertility factors, if present. Consult urologist if necessary.
