Staph: Folliculitis is almost always caused by a superficial infection with staphylococcus aureus. Keep the area meticulously clean. You may apply a small amount of topical antibiotic. Keep your hands away. Sometimes if the infection is extensive or deep some physicians will prescribe oral antibiotics.
