A member asked:

If i have cancer in both breasts my sternum and my 10th rib and was told it is at least stage 3 does that make it terminal ?

Life is terminal: We will all die eventually. My understanding of staging is that once the cancer is in the bones it is stage 4. However, if it is bone-only disease, it's treated differently than the cancer being in the organs like liver, lung and brain, and can be successfully treated for a long time. 23 would be very young and unusual to be diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.

Metastatic = stage 4: If the cancer is spread to those areas it is stage 4. Treatment options and prognosis need more information and discussion with an oncologist and likely others including a radiation oncologist. If age is 23, then likely also a genetic counselor.
