Over heated: Babies are not able to sweat. If they get too warm, their body will try to release heat by dilating vessels in the skin. This makes them turn red and warm to touch. If they are just dilating veins due to immature vascular tone, the body part can look purple or blue. This is often hands and feet. It is called acrocyanosis and is a normal state of development.
