Unclear: One of the main side effects of oral magnesium is diarrhea and gastrointestinal discomfort. The IV version has more side effects. Kidney pain isn't usually one of them. If you can directly attribute the mag to a consistent pain that happens each time you take it, you should let your doctor know and discuss stopping the medicine.
