i am getting a sharp pain in my upper left side (upper rib cage), i feel it most when bending or doing sit-ups for my workout, what could this be?

Sounds like: An abdominal wall muscle pull or strain. Try heat and rest and something like ibuprofen. Have an examination with a doctor if it persists.
