Get checked.: If a person has a lung nodule and a history of smoking 30 years ago, it should at least be checked out by a doctor and preferably aspirated for cells, etc..There is almost no way to know what this is unless it is checked out by previous x rays, and the above tests to get more knowledge about it. Then the best course of action can be determined.

Depends: Depends on what caused the lung nodule. Even among cancers, there are different types with different prognosis. If it is lung cancer and you don't treat it, generally you will die from it but your life expectancy may vary greatly depending on the type and spread - from months to 5+ years. If it has not spread and you take it out, you have a good chance of being cured.

Depends: There are many different conditions can cause lung nodule. How long a person can survive-will depend on the cause. A pet scan should be done be done for solitary lung nodule. If it is suspicious, a biopsy should be done to establish diagnosis. If it is not suspicious- close monitoring with ct scan can be an option. The answer will depend on what is the cause of the the lung nodule.
