Root/herb: Ginger is a root/herb...It is used in cooking and baking...It has also been shown to calm upset tummies and seasickness...Beware, however when used in large amounts over long periods of time, it can be deleterious to certain organs...Better to check with your doc or a dietician before using it therapeutically..Pretty safe when used for cooking and baking, however..

Maybe little, but...: Aromatic, flavorful, and spicy, ginger adds zest to asian dishes. Fresh ginger root is available year round in the produce section. It is not eaten as a food (one should worry about "nutrients" in it) but is used as a spice, an additive. Ginger has anti-nausea effects. Some people also believe ginger has anti-inflammatory properties. Then there are others who claim the root has even more benefits.

Vitamins, minerals &: Ginger contains at least 477 different chemicals(!) including trace levels of vitamins including c, b3, 5, 6, 9 & k, minerals like potassium, magnesium & zinc & Amino Acids like aspartate, but it is a trivial source of most nutrients & its main health benefits come from unique compounds like gingerols & gingediols with medicinal effects.
