It's a long name...: Neurodevelopmental disease is a long name for types of problems that occur in children's brains and nerves. These problems are called developmental because the symptoms are "abnormal development" when compared to a normal child. Often the exact cause of the defect in the brain or nerves is never known, but presumed to be genetic (some hereditary, some not). Treatments may help symptoms somewhat.

Normal variation: Sleep study is not an acceptable measure of development. Neurodevelopment needs to be assessed by specific testing of abilities and motor and verbal and cognitive skills. Disorganized sleep can be a normal variation in some children. It is reasonable to help him develop better sleep patterns, but this is independent of neurological development.
