A member asked:

What antibiotic causes trauma and rupture of the achilies tendon?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Quinolones: The family of antibiotics known as quinolones (cipro, levaquin, (levofloxacin) avelox) are associated with an increased incidence of tendinitis and tendon rupture. Patients over 60 seem to be particularly susceptible as well as those using steroids (prednisone, dexamethasone). Patients taking a quinolone that experience pain or tenderness should notify their physician and avoid strenuous exercise.
