Possible: Could be many things. Included on the list would be various cancers. You need a check up by a doctor.

Infection?: The first thing i think of would not be cancer. This could be something called hidranitis (inflammation of the sweat glands) or a local infection. You should alert your friend primary care physician to these symptoms.
