It's normal: A good number of children grind their teeth and they grow out of it. Grinding teeth is related to central nervous system and why children do it is not know for sure. Nothing to worry about.

Stress: Believe it or not, small children experience stress in their lives just as we do. The most common reason to grind the teeth is stress related. However, another cause is due to eruption of teeth. This could be a normal body response to dealing with the change in the bite as they lose baby teeth and get adult teeth. Take him to an orthodontist for an exam to know for sure. Check out www.Braces.Org.

No cause...: A lot of kids go through a phase of tooth grinding. Most kids outgrow it, there's very little chance he will do any real damage to his teeth, and there isn't really anything you can do to stop him fr doing it.

Normal: Many children grind their teeth. Some hyperactive children do. Some may do so in response to ear ache or nightmare. Or even developing and a changing tooth alignment or eruption sequence. But, most grow out of it.
