What does it mean to have degenerative disc syndrome?

Let's see: Between each vertebral body is a cushion called an intervertebral disc. These act as so-called shock absorbers to the spine. With aging and with overuse and with trauma and for unknown reasons, these disc lose their elasticity, stamina and durability and deteriorate. This can place stresses on the spine (cervical, thoracic & lumbar) and cause a myriad of symptoms and problems. They wear out!
