Musculoskeletal : Considering your age, the cause of your pain might be of musculoskeletal injury. The association of pain with breathing might be due to using accessory muscles which you could have strained. Also, an injury to the intercostal muscles (muscles between ribs) might be the origin of pain in the upper back. Try 2-3 advil (ibuprofen) pills 2-3 timesper day x 3 days. If symptoms persist or worsens, see your doctor.

Rib dysfunction: Pain in mid & upper back aggravated by inhalation is usually due to a rib being locked down.Usually ribs move up & down w/ inhalation/exhalation.When a rib is locked down, it cannot rise with inhalation causing pain.Sometimes a vertebra locked (bent forward) can cause similar pain.Either way, a good history & phys incl osteopathic hands-on exam can usually locate the cause & manipulation may fix it.
