If there is infectio: If there is infection with the injury it can cause fever - especially if there is infection of bones called osteomyelitis it is worrisome and needed a long term antibiotic treatment.

Yes, if infected: Direct injuries to a joint that get infected will almost certainly cause a febrile illness. Urgent appropriate treatment is mandatory to determine if a joint has become septic.
