Yes.: As the attached image demonstrates any fetal demise with ongoing pregnancy will result in mummification of the lost fetus (papyraceous) that can sometimes be seen as part of the placenta/afterbirth. A fetal demise in more advanced gestational age may not always lead to complete reabsorption but rather an incomplete autolysis and dehydration of the retained embryo.
