Location & Size: Your experience is not unusual--many hernias cause few if any symptoms, especially when small. Not all hernias require surgery--the decision to recommend hernia repair is dependent on the location and size of the hernia. I recommend that you see a general surgeon for a formal exam and to learn what options are available to you. Good luck!

Many years: You can have a hernia for years. It will either stay the same or get worse. Worse refers to increase size and pain or discomfort. You should see a general surgeon for details about your case.
