Transverse position: Usually the head is pointed down toward the pelvis late in pregnancy. Some are buttocks down and rarely they appear transverse (head to one side with buttocks to the other). There is some chance the baby will shift positions before labor starts, or the obstetrician may try to help baby by doing a "version" maneuver. If the baby will not change position, surgical delivery is necessary.
