A member asked:

I have 8cm benign mass protruding from appendix into cecum, is it safe to wait six months to check for growth, or should it be removed. causes pain.?

8 cm?: That's a tennis ball! you sure it isn't 8mm? Anyhow, if a definite mass is noted during colonoscopy, it should be removed to be safe. Keep in mind that a biopsy can be falsely negative and the true nature of a tumor is not certain unless the entire lesion is studied carefully by a pathologist.

Don't take a chance: Tye only way to know if it is benign or not for sure is to have it removed. Talk to a general or colorectal surgeon for a consultation and bring your ct scan disc with you.
