May help symptoms: Marijuana may alleviate some of the pain associated with shingles, but i know of no evidence that it helps shingles to get better. The best treatments for shingles are anti-viral drugs like valtrex (valacyclovir). Immune-boosting herbs, the Amino Acid lysine and homeopathy may be very helpful. Frequency-specific microcurrent is surprisingly effective for pain. Marijuana & other pain meds help symptoms only.

Agree with Dr. Baker: Shingles pain can be prolonged, and physically, and mentally debilitating. A patient with this malady should exhaust all possible avenues to find relief, and hopefully resolution of their chronic post herpetic neuralgia. I am doubtful that cannibus has any direct antiviral effect on the patients pain, but combined with appropriate pharmaceuticals has the capacity to decrease opoid consumption.
