See below: Most commonly kidney pain occurs in the loin area ie your back , at the sides of the spine, around the lower part of your rib cage.Again pain occurs most commonly from either a stone/stones or infection. The pain may travel down the front of the abdomen. A medical examination is required to distinguish it from other causes of pain.

Flank pain: Typically kidney pain is located in the flank area, pain can radiate to the groin area. Can have associated urinary symptoms.
