24-48 hours: nicotine is usually not what is tested for, but its main metabolite cotinine. Nicotine is extremely short-acting - that is why people smoke 20 cigarettes a day (or about one an hour when awake). Cotinine lasts longer, and can be found in blood for 1-2 days and in urine for 2-3 days. Oral swabs can detect it potentially for slightly longer.
