A member asked:

How long does nicotine stay in the blood?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Variable, but the: Companies that manufacture the tests say that saliva can remain positive for 7-10 days, whereas blood and urine tests are generally negative within 3-5 days. Nicotine per se stays only for a few minutes, and is metabolized to cotinine, an inactive metabolite, which is what is generally tested for. Thats why people smoke 20-30 puffs for each cigarette, and smoke 20 or more cigarettes per day.
