Arthritis or trigger: Arthritis in the ip or terminal joint, the mp or main knuckle joint, or the base or cmc basilar joint is one cause. Arthritic pain is typically worse in th am but can stop after you get moving. Severe cases persist during activity. Very severe cases hurt and ache even into the evening trigger thumb also a painful thumb issue that is worse in the am. In some cases no locking occurs.
