It goes down by...: Transaminases (sgot, ast; sgpt, alt) go down by themselves, if the person no longer has the problem, disease, disorder, activity, medication, diet, drug, etc..., that was causing the elevation. Many many things can cause high transaminase levels, so one has to talk with her primary care doctor to find out what the cause is in order to lower the levels. Sometimes the cause is never known.
