Change Toothpaste: Many patients have varying reactions to toothpastes due to an ingrediant that does not agree with them. Carbamide peroxide in whitening toothpastes release urea and hydrogen peroxide. Some patients are sensitive the the surfactant sodium lauryth sulfate and react with canker sores or other mucous membrane reactions. Some of the vital oils and flavorants do similar irritation.

Time for a change: Many people cannot tolerate the 'more intense' flavors of toothpaste, so something more mild might be better for you. If that doesn't work, look for one without sodium laurel (or laureth) sulfate in it. This chemical is a detergent added to prolong shelf life, but some people do not tolerate it well.
