What should a patient expect during a lithotripsy treatment?

Several things: You will usually be put to sleep and the treatment will happen. After treatment you will have some pain on the treated side.

ESWL: Eswl treatment is performed under sedation on an outpatient basis. There will be some mild post-procedure discomfort and some blood in the urine. Passage of fragments may cause pain requiring narcotic analgesia.
