Probably viral: Treat symptomatically with fluids. If he becomes irritable, develops fever, is not feeding as usual, or sleeping more than usual or not easily aroused, see a pediatrician immediately.

Infant colds: With such a small infant , i would have him checked by his doc. Also make sure his airway is clear, suction his nostrils with saline drops and a suction bag. Run a humidifier as well. Never give an infant this age any medication with out consulting your doctor. If he has any fever over 100.5 rectal, and you can not get in to se your doc, go to the er.

Doubt it's a cold: The first months are troubled by narrow nasal passages & exposure to dust, fragrences, smoke & other irritants.Baby tries to flush these out of the nose with mucous but this often ends as congestion & produces rattling with breathing. The best rx is washing out the nose with saline & suctioning the remainder. Eliminate irritants from babies environment & this will happen less.
