Meds/PT vs surgery: Depending on the severity of your pinched nerve and symptoms, anti-inflammatory medications, and/or pain meds, physical therapy may help with your symptoms. If not adequate, epidural/nerve root injections may be considered. If still not controlled, you may need surgical decompression of the nerve affected. Consult your doc and ask about your options. Good luck.

Time, medication...: Time is the biggest factor as most disc problems resolve. Activity modification, traction, wearing a soft cervical collar backwards, exercise/physical therapy, medication & epidural steroid injections are options. Regular exercise and smoking cessation play a role in maintaining a healthy spine. In 10% of disc herniations, surgery indicated with 90% success rate in a non smoker.
