Maybe never: Some people have one bad hip and get a thr and never need the other side done.

Varies: It varies a lot, but you could get a pretty good idea by just knowing what the other hip currently looks like on X-ray. If it is close to normal, then the risk is low. If it looks equally as bad as the one you are having the hip replacement on, then the risk of needing another would likely be high.
