Snapping hip: Snapping can be due to tendons in front of the hip or along the side. Pt can help by teaching you how to stretch these to reduce the snapping. Painful snapping should be evaluated by your surgeon, especially if your replacement has been in for a while.

Soft tissue catching: Snapping in the hip can be caused by tendons catching on an object and then snapping back into place. This can be a bone or implant prominence that catches the soft tissue as it passes by. This can occur on the outside or inside of the hip and cause a noise and discomfort. Another cause of hip noise or 'clunking' may be subluxation of the ball from the socket. Surgeon should be able to tell.
