Sodium Bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) : Sodium bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) in water has an alkaline ph (above 7). Sodas usually are acidic (ph = 2.5 - 4.5). If your goal is to neutralize an acidic environment, you would add something basic to it.
