Not really: It's probably the fluid alone - alkalinizing your urine will not kill bacteria in your urine. You should remain "hydrated" at all times (urine output >/= 2 quarts/day). (urinary alkalinization is usually a treatment for uric acid kidney stones - but is better done as potassium citrate/not sodium bicarbonate.).
