I've been in treatment for high pb for years. it has been staying in an acceptable range for some time. i take sodium bicarbonate for kidney function. lately my systolic bp is persistently high. can the sodium bicarbonate be the cause?

Yes, sodium bicarbonate can increase systolic pressure because of the sodium content. At times, we have to use diuretic for combating that side effect if needed. Take care.

Excess of sodium can cause highBP. Sodium is essential for the body. If the dose of your Sod bicarbonate is high make the doc aware of it. Also the doc treating your BP should be aware that you take it. Between the two of them they should work it out. Goodluck
