Need to label: Dyslexia is not used much any more. It means a disorder in reading. More common in boys and usually a description during early school. Later school problems may need a label to get special extra help. Dyslexia is meaningless but better than retardation or autism.

Sounds "old-school": Historically, schools defined learning disabilities by a significant split between ability & achievement, which often delayed testing & services till 3rd grade when a child showed inability to read!, express herself in writing or do math at age-& grade-level. While testing is still required for eligibility for special education services, interventions for kids at-risk often start earlier niw.
