A member asked:

How long does it take for breast milk to dry up ? my daughter is 2 and i stopped breastfeedin her at 7months and there's still milk!

??: I have had patients with breast milk leakage that lasted well over a year. I would suggest an exam and possible mommogram?Ultrasound to rule out other problems. If you stimulate the breasts as in when having sex or have a rare condition in your pituitary gland (brain) this is also something to consider. Talk to your pcp.

Can last for months: Have your doctor draw a prolactin level (blood test) to insure there is not a more serious cause for the continued leakage. If the test is normal, he can prescribe a medication to dry it up.
