Absolutely: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) has been studied and used clinically for treating adhd since the late 1980's. For many years, it was among the top two stimulants prescribed for adhd, the other being Concerta (a form of methylphenidate).

Depends: Adderall (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) is a fine drug for adhd if properly used as prescribed. Which stimulant (& in what form) to use is very individual choice between doctor & patient. Many factors bear on the decision: daily routine; addiction history; sleep, cardiovascular, seizure, neurologic, past history; family history. If a 1st degree blood relative did well on adderall, (dextroamphetamine and racemic amphetamine) then you may too.

Others stimulants that can help include Dextroamphetamine (dexedrine), methylphenidate (ritalin). All 3 have long-acting preparations available. Other options include Clonidine and guafacine (tenex).
