A member asked:

Is there a connection between lou gerig desease and insulin?

3 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Most likely not.: Lou gehrig's disease is formally known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a neurodegenerative disorder of unknown cause. Speculation exists that there is a relative deficiency of insulin-like growth factor, which has a stimulating effect on nerve cell growth and function. Experimental results haven't been promising that insulin-like growth factor is a therapeutic option.

None whatsoever: Lou Gehrig's disease, or ALS, is a very bad disease, for which we have no cause or cure, and generally only modest palliative treatments. No relationship between diabetes or insulin.
