Lantis : Lantis is a slow release Insulin injection that is administered once a day, good for 24 hours. Humulin is not the same. Humulin lasts for about 14 hours and peaks differently than lantus (insulin glargine). If you were to switch to humulin, you may need to give your self 2 injections/day to regulate your blood sugar. Let your doctor know what your wishes are and that you'd like to opt for a substitute, one that is more affordable. The change may, however, change the way you administer Insulin to yourself in terms of how many injections you need in a day, as well as the frequency for which you check your blood sugar.

Not exactly: Lantus is a 24 hour long acting insulin dosed daily. Humulin N is intermediate acting insulin dosed daily to twice daily. They aren't exactly the same. That being said, Humulin N can be an alternative to Lantus if dosed properly in concert with an expert's advice. Consider seeing your doctor to determine the best dosing regimen for you. Hope this helps!
