Visual assessment: Most physicians recognize the attributes of a candida infection as it appears within the mouth or on the outer skin surface. A scraping µscopic examination of the debris could be done but would be more an academic endeavor to teach medical students that a step required for diagnosis.

Dx: To diagnose a yeast infection the physician may obtain a medical history, perform a pelvic examination, & take a sample of vaginal secretions which can be examined microscopically at the office or may undergo further laboratory tests.
