A member asked:

What could cause weird neurological symptoms with narcolepsy?

Narcolepsy itself: Narcoleptic symptoms are "weird" such as hallucinations when falling asleep or upon awakening. Loss of body tone to sudden stimulation (startle) is also "weird" in the context of every day life. Sleep deprivation itself can cause considerable cognitive dysfunction (trouble thinking).

Hypocretin: in narcolepsy, many individuals have a loss of hypocretin producing cells. This loss of hypocretin may contribute to some of the neurological symptoms seen in narcolepsy.
