One is a carrier: Hd is inherited in an autosomal dominant fashion. It is a unique disorder in that the genetic alteration is one where there is an expansion of the code cag. The larger this expansion, the worse some of the manifestations of the disease. If you are affected, than most likley one of your parents is a carrier. They may not be affected if the amount of cag is not within the disease range.
