A member asked:

How would you explain the importance of avoiding bacterial infections to someone with leukemia?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Could be deadly: In patients with most leukemias ( except cml) patients are very immune compromised especially during treatments. They can not handle infections and the body's immune system can be overwhelmed rapidly with often catastrophic results. Prevention is achieved best by minimizing contacts, diet restrictions, strict hygiene, etc.
