Heat or cold: Try rinsing or holding warm or cold water next to the offending tooth (you will need to experiment if you don't already know which causes the tooth to be more sensitive). The area should be evaluated by a dentist asap. It could be dangerous to mask the symptoms with palliative means.

Ibuprofen short term: Short term, you should take an over the counter anti inflammatory and analgesic such as advil (ibuprofen). You can also alternate Ibuprofen and tylenol (acetaminophen) about every 3 hours. You have to see a dentist to determine the cause of the toothache and treat the cavity or whatever is causing the tooth to ache.
