Lidocaine many uses: Lidocaine is a local anesthetic that is used for many purposes. It works by blocking signals in nerves. It may be injected in and around a wound to numb an area for cleaning or suturing, or prior to a biopsy or incision. It can be injected near the spinal nerves for an epidural or spinal block. It is an ingredient in sunburn meds, and can be injected intravenously to treat heart rhythm problems.
