How does melanoma impact an individual's overall health status?

It depends . . : The impact of melanoma on overall health depends on how deep the cancer is at diagnosis. For very thin (in situ) lesions, there is very little impact after the lesion is treated. On the other end of the spectrum, thicker melanomas that my have spread can be fatal. If you have been diagnosed with melanoma, discuss your prognosis with your dermatologist.

Variable...: If caught early, melanomas are very curable and will have little long-term impact other than the need for routine cancer surveillance. If they spread, they can be life-threatening. If you have any lesions which you are concerned about, notify your doctor or dermatologist as soon as possible for evaluation and biopsy if indicated.

Depends on the stage: This depends on the stage of melanoma. Most melanomas are caught early and have a very high cure rate. However metastatic melanoma is a very dangerous diagnosis with poor outcomes.
