Multiple: Just to name a few: traumatic ulcer from hitting gums with solid part of toothbrush, biting on hard object ie. Hard bread crust, pretzle, nut shell etc. Another would be cold sore type ulcer from herpes virus. Another is what is called geographic tongue which is less uncomfortable but has the appearance of ulcer or irritated area on the tongue.

Many many types: There are many conditons that can produce ulcerations of the mouth, some more serious than others. A common one is called a canker sore, which will cure itself in about 10-14 days. Since some ulcers can be serious, and even cancerous, go see your dentist today for an evaluation and treatment.
