Gout is a systemic condition where you are either over producing or underexcreting uric acid. Your physician will do blood, urine as well as other tests.You may need permanent medication.You need to stay away from foods that can cause.

Depends: This depends whether you have an acute case or not. If not acute, talk to your doctor about certain chronic medications like Allopurinol & diet modifications as well as adequate hydration. For acute attacks there are several medications like Colchicine and Indomethacin or steroids.

Have it treated: Watch your diet, have uric acid brought to 6.0 or below. For an acute attack, hot water soaks, oral antiinflammatory pills, and if pain severe a local nerve block or steroid infiltration can help.
